Welfare Officer
We want EA The Hague to be a space where everyone feels safe, welcome, and able to participate fully. We're looking for someone to help make that happen.
What we're about
We're a friendly bunch trying to figure out how to do the most good in the world. We host events, facilitate discussions, and build a community of people who care about making a positive impact—whether that's through their careers, donations, or just thoughtful conversations over coffee.
What you'll be doing
As our Welfare Officer, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy, safe, and inclusive community at THEA. This means:
Being a point of contact for anyone who has concerns about community dynamics, conflicts, or uncomfortable situations
Preventing issues by helping create and maintain community guidelines, norms, and policies
Responding to concerns when they arise - listening, providing support, and helping resolve conflicts or problems
Checking in on community health - noticing when something feels off and addressing it proactively
Fostering inclusivity - making sure our events and spaces are welcoming to people from different backgrounds
Supporting individuals who might be struggling or need someone to talk to
You'll work alongside the board and other team members, but this role has a distinct focus: you're here to make sure people feel safe and supported.
What we're looking for
Time commitment: Around 3-5 hours per week (can vary - some weeks might be quiet, others might need more attention)
Skills needed:
Good listener with strong emotional intelligence
Able to handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy
Comfortable setting boundaries and having difficult conversations when needed
Some familiarity with EA topics (but people skills matter more here!)
Vibe check: Warm, approachable, trustworthy, and genuinely committed to creating a healthy community culture
Prior experience in conflict resolution, community management, counseling, or similar roles would be great, but what matters most is that you're someone people feel comfortable talking to.
The real talk
This role requires maturity and discretion. You'll sometimes hear about sensitive situations and need to handle them thoughtfully. You should be comfortable being "the adult in the room" when needed, while still keeping things friendly and approachable.
